Barbados

Barbados nestled in the Eastern Caribbean is known by many as the Isle of Dreams. With its rich history and beautiful beaches, Barbados has become a favorite among vacationers. The island was first settled in 1627, when the first English settlement was established. In 1639, the first legislature was established, making the Barbadian parliament the second oldest in the British Commonwealth. One year later, the sugar industry was established on the island.  Barbados offers white-sand beaches and rolling hills and fields of sugarcane, rather than lush volcano's and tropical rain forests. It's nickname "Little England" is reflected in it's British Traditions of afternoon tea and cricket matches and it's colorful cottages, neat little gardens and stone parish churches. Barbados has more than it's share of wild scenery: cliffs along the north and east coasts, sweeping bays, treacherous reefs and mysterious caves. Barbados can be a good first time Caribbean experience for the more discerning traveler
